Yesterday's return to work turned into a complete shambles. My QantasLink flight from Bundaberg down to Brisbane was running more than an hour late thanks apparently to a faulty rev counter. It was obvious to me that any chance of getting my Virgin Blue connection up to Townsville had gone out of the window so I quickly investigated what other options were still open to me. Virgin Blue of course were uninterested - 'Sorry Sir that's a Blue Saver Special - no refund...'. The last QANTAS flight to Townsville didn't look good either, it'd be touch and go whether I'd get there in time and there was only one seat left, in business class at $845... So I opted for a cheapie on QANTAS to Cairns, a snip at $216. Then of course I had to cancel my accommodation in Townsville and organise something new in Cairns. I really didn't need all that chaos but my travel arrangements have only gone badly pear-shaped once in 18 months so I probably shouldn't complain.
Despite having spent all day in freezing cold Bundaberg (I don't think it got above 10 degrees C all day) I was surprised to find it was still cool enough in Cairns for me to slip my jacket on when I got there. I must be going soft.
