There's three of us usually when we go away which means that we need at least a one bedroom apartment with a sofa bed or a two bedroomed apartment. We've tried quite a few places now and they always seem to fall short one way or another. We thought we were on to a good thing at Toowong but the second time we stayed there we couldn't get onto the internet (and the management didn't give a rats) so we moved on to Gabba Central Apartments.
This is a swish new development, all very modern and clean but frankly a bit of a let-down. Our one bedroom apartment only became a one bedroom apartment solely by closing two whopping great sliding doors (pictured) which made up one corner of the room. I'm not quite sure what architectural aberration spawned this bizarre idea, perhaps the desire to let a group of 20 friends cook up a storm in the kitchen while they watch you having sex in the bedroom or maybe just so they could get the king sized bed in without standing it on its side. Who knows ?
Another peculiarity was the bathroom sink doubling up as the laundry tub and looking for all the world like the latter complete with hose from washing machine. Add in a view of a concrete wasteland in the middle of the complex, bedside lights which you can't read by, two air-cons and one control (that well known brand McQuay, the noisiest air conditioners in the world) and we were a tad disappointed to say the least.
Internet access was ridiculously expensive and there was nothing written about web access in the room which is a bit of an oversight these days. Why they didn't set up a 'log-in and pay with your credit card system' I'll never understand. Where shall we stay next time ?
