Malcolm Turnbull, newly elected Liberal MP, attended the first meeting in the Coalition party room since the federal election. He is quoted as saying, "I'm very humbled by the whole experience, to be entrusted with the job of representing my community in parliament" (The Australian, October 19).
Malcolm Turnbull humbled - that's a first ! Let's hope he does a better job of representing his electorate than he did of representing republican interests in the abortive referendum process - or was his captaincy of the ARM just a means to an end ? I guess life will be easier for him now. He can forget all that republican nonsense and conveniently repress any memories of the exercise, including what he said about his new boss, John Howard. A lot of us, however, won't forget.
While I wait for the next referendum (which will no doubt be a while away) I'll focus on getting my typepad skills in shape.
